Jamie Oliver’s cottage pie is a delicious, hearty dish that can please even the pickiest eaters. So if you’re looking for something comforting and flavorful, this dish is worth trying.

Cottage pie is a traditional English dish that dates back to the 18th century. It is made with minced meat, potatoes, carrots, and peas, and is typically topped with a pastry crust or mashed potatoes.

Jamie Oliver’s twist on this classic dish includes adding Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, and thyme. Start by browning the minced beef in a pan. Add chopped veggies, salt, and pepper. Pour in the red wine and sauce, and cook for a few more minutes. Transfer the beef mixture to the dish, and top with mashed potatoes and grated butter.

Bake for at least 30 minutes.  You can brown the beef in a frying pan for a richer flavor before adding it to the pie dish. You can add peas or corn to the filling if you want a bit of extra veg.

In this blog post, we’ll guide you through how to make this tasty dish, along with tips and variations. So, whether you’re a pie lover or a seasoned pro, this blog post is for you.

    Expert Tips That I Recommend

    • Make sure you cook the mince properly before adding it to the stock. This adds a rich flavor to the pie base.
    • Avoid overcooking the peas; stir them in at the end of the simmering process as they remain sweet and bright.
    • Cook the vegetables on low heat so they soften properly.
    • Spread the potato mixture well to the edges. It adds a flavourful filling underneath.
    • To enjoy extra crispy, lightly drizzle potatoes with olive oil before baking.

    Recipe Variation for Different Diets

    • Keto Version: Swap potatoes with cauliflower, replace carrot and turnip with cauliflower, and mushrooms.
    • Gluten-Free Version: Swap regular flour with gluten-free flour and check if Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free or not.

    Storing And Reheating This Recipe

    Storing

    • First, let the recipe cool completely, then keep the cottage pie in an airtight container. This way it will remain fresh for up to 3 to 4 days.
    • To freeze it, wrap the cooked cottage pie in plastic wrap. It will stay fresh for 2-3 months.

    Reheating

    • Oven: First, preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Cover with foil to prevent the mashed potatoes from drying out. Then heat for 20-30 minutes; at the end, remove the foil and heat for 5-10 minutes.
