If you are from Nebraska, then you must be aware of Runza Casserole, but do you know about the Runza Casserole Recipe? If not, then I will provide you with the Runza Casserole Recipe, which I got from my friend who is from Nebraska.
But first, let’s see who invented Runza.
Donald Everett Sr. invented Runza.
What Is Runza?
Runza is made from yeast bread pockets, which consist of cabbage, beef or onions, sauerkraut, and seasoning, and can be made in different shapes and sizes.
When I was in the US, I went to Nebraska to meet my college friend. When I was at her home after some chit-chat, she made Runza Casserole for me, and I found it so tasty. I ate it twice, and before leaving her home, I asked her about the Runza Casserole Recipe.
She gave me the recipe with detailed instructions and guidelines. When I came back home, I made it for my parents; they also loved it. Then I thought to share the Runza Casserole Recipe with my lovely people over here.

ToggleExpert Tips That I Recommend
- If the beef releases a lot of fat, it is better to drain some before you add vegetables and butter. This way the filling won’t turn greasy.
- You need to break the beef into small, even pieces to distribute throughout the cabbage mixture.
- To enjoy a well-baked crust, continue cooking cabbage until moisture evaporates.
- Avoid piling up the mixture in the center, but spread it uniformly.
- Always keep the filling away from the edges so that it becomes easier to seal the dough.

Let us know how it was!FAQs About Runza Casserole
How do I prevent filling from spilling out when slicing?
To prevent the filling from spilling, let the casserole set after baking. This helps in letting cheese and juice settle and makes slicing easy.
Why does my crescent dough crack while assembling?
The dough usually breaks when it is cold or has been stretched too much. Let it soften, then gently press the seams together so that it remains intact.
Why is my beef filling watery?
As cabbage and onions release water while cooking, it is advisable to cook uncovered so that moisture evaporates.
Why did the cheese leak out?
This usually happens if you added cheese on the edge or the dough was not sealed properly.
