Succulent Paula Deen Roasted Turkey Recipe

Paula Deen Roasted Turkey With Gravy

Turkey will always be magical on dinner tables. They are old-fashioned but never go out of style. So, let’s see what Paula Deen’s Roasted Turkey recipe brings today in terms of taste and flavor.

In this recipe, the chef first prepares a butter mixture with butter, rosemary, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper. Then stuff the turkey with onions, carrots, and celery. Now brush the butter mixture on the top and roast.

The oh-so-delicious turkey recipe has a bad reputation for turning out dry, undercooked, and bland. Here is a tip for you all! Place the vegetables in the bottom of the baking dish, and place the turkey on top to make a flavorful gravy from their juices.

Moreover, cover the turkey with foil while roasting, then uncover it in the last 20 minutes. This will give the turkey a nice brown finish.

There are about a gazillion roasted turkey recipes that you can make for your excellent Thanksgiving dinner. But Paula Deen’s recipe stands out. Why! Because it is easy, and the roasted turkey is delicious, with a herby flavor and crispy skin.

Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • Make sure you thaw the turkey completely before cooking. A partially frozen turkey will cook unevenly and ruin the texture.
  • Be careful about removing giblets and neck from the cavity before seasoning.
  • Always season the cavity well, especially in the cavity, as it absorbs flavor well.
  • You need to make stuffing only of aromatic and not bread.
  • Carefully loosen the skin over the breast and rub a little butter and herbs for extra flavor.

Recipe Variation for Different Diets

  • Keto Version: Add unsalted butter or avocado oil to brush the turkey. Replace carrots with mushrooms.
  • Whole 30 Version: Add olive oil instead of butter in the recipe.

Storing And Reheating This Recipe

Storing

  • Once the recipe is prepared, let it cool down completely. Then transfer it to an airtight container, and please store it in the refrigerator. This way it will remain fresh up to 4 days, and you can enjoy it whenever you want to.
  • You can also freeze it when the turkey cools down, divide it into meal-sized portions, and pack in freezer bags. Adding gravy and juices before freezing helps keep the meat moist, ensuring it stays fresh for three months.

Reheating

  • Stovetop: Add turkey to a skillet and add a splash of broth. Now cover it and heat for 8-10 minutes over low heat. Stir occasionally until well heated.
  • Microwave: Add turkey to a microwave-safe bowl. Add some broth to it to fix the consistency, then cover it lightly with a damp paper towel. Heat in 50 % power over 1-minute intervals until heated properly.

What To Serve With This Recipe

The Succulent Paula Deen Roasted Turkey can be enjoyed with a variety of appetizers, salads, or simple drinks. But if you ask me, I love having it with my all-time favorite and fresh Caesar salad. Well, you can also enjoy it with fresh citrusy lemonade or iced tea.

FAQs About Paula Deen Roasted Turkey

How do I keep my turkey moist?

In order to enjoy a moist and juicy turkey, first pat it dry and apply butter generously before cooking. Do not overcook it, as it makes the turkey dry.

Should I roast the turkey covered or uncovered?

You can cover it lightly with foil during the first half of cooking to avoid excessive browning. During the last 30 minutes, remove the foil to enjoy a golden, crisp layer.

Do I need to baste turkey?

Well, basting is optional. As you have already applied butter under the skin, it keeps the meat moist, while regular basting can reduce the crispiness of the skin.

Why is my turkey dry?

The most common reason is overcooking. You need to remove the turkey from the oven once it reaches the right internal temperature. Then keep it aside for some time before carving.

Why didn’t my turkey skin get crispy?

The ideal reason for not getting crispy skin is either the turkey was not dried properly or was covered for too long while cooking. Make sure you uncover it in the last 30 minutes for a crispy finish.
