Read the lists below to know whether you have all the equipment and ingredients for Gordon Ramsay’s sausage rolls.

Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • Chill the sausages and puff pastry before assembling, as this gives a light, flaky texture.
  • Avoid overmixing the pastry, as it can make puff pastry dense. Roll it just enough to form a rectangle.
  • Do not overfill the mixture; instead, keep the sausage mixture in a long, even log, with enough pastry around it to seal.
  • Brush the pastry with egg wash and press firmly with a fork. This helps seal the pastry well.
  • You can chill the pastry for 30 minutes to help it hold its shape.  When you bake it, it rises properly.

Recipe Variation for Different Diets

  • Keto Version: Instead of regular puff pastry, use keto puff pastry and replace plain flour with almond flour. Do check whether mustard and Marmite are sugar-free.
  • Gluten-Free Version: Use gluten-free puff pastry and flour instead of regular puff pastry and flour. Double-check whether mustard and Marmite are gluten-free.

Storing And Reheating This Recipe

Storing

  • Allow the rolls to cool down completely. Then place them in an airtight container, with parchment paper between them to prevent them from sticking together. Now, refrigerate them. Make sure you consume them within 3-4 days.
  • For longer storage, you can also freeze them. All you need to do is freeze the rolls individually, then add them to a freezer-safe container and freeze for 2 to 3 months.

Reheating

  • Oven: First, preheat the oven to 350°F. Then add the rolls to an oven-safe dish.  Now heat them for 8- 12 minutes.
  • Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 170–180°C (340–350°F) for about 5–8 minutes. Then add rolls and reheat them.

What To Serve With This Recipe

Gordon Ramsay’s Sausage Roll pairs well with classic Tomato dip and veggie sticks. If you want to add something light to the recipe, serve it with roasted Brussels sprouts or Corn on the Cob. Well, you can add creamy cauliflower mash or honey-glazed carrots to keep it sweet and crunchy.

Total Time 1 hour 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Sausage Meat
  • 3 Tablespoons Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Sea Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Black Pepper
  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry
  • ½ cup Plain Flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tablespoon Marmite
  • 1 Tablespoon Nigella Seeds

Equipment

  • Bowl
  • Baking Tray
  • Spatula
  • Spoon
  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet

Method

  • Season the sausage meat in a large bowl with mustard, salt, and pepper. Roll the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and create a large rectangle from them. Cut this sheet lengthwise to have two long strips.
  • Now, place half of the sausage mixture in the center of one of the pastry strips. Form a long sausage shape in the center from the sausage meat and brush the egg mixture (beaten egg and Marmite) over the pastry borders. Enclose the sausage in the pastry. Crimp the pastry to seal it using a fork and cut each long roll into six small rolls. Repeat this with the other pastry strip.
  • Line the baking sheet with baking paper. Place the sausage rolls on this tray and transfer it into the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Let the rolls firm and then bake them in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven when the pastry is crispy and golden. Serve warm or as a party buffet.
