Jamie Oliver Cottage Pie Recipe

Jamie Oliver’s cottage pie is a delicious and hearty dish that can please the pickiest eaters. So if you’re looking for something comforting and flavorful, this dish is worth trying.

Cottage pie is a traditional English dish that dates back to the 18th century. It is made with minced meat, potatoes, carrots, and peas and is typically topped with a pastry crust or mashed potatoes.

Jamie Oliver’s twist on this classic dish includes adding Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, and thyme.

Start by browning the minced beef in a pan. Add chopped veggies, salt, and pepper. Pour in the red wine and sauce, and cook for a few more minutes. Transfer the beef mixture to the dish, and top with mashed potatoes and grated butter. Bake the dish for a minimum of half an hour.  You can brown the beef in a frying pan for a richer flavor before adding it to the pie dish. You can add peas or corn to the filling if you want a bit of extra veg in your pie.

In this blog post, we’ll guide you on how to make this tasty dish, as well as some tips and variations. So, whether you’re a pie lover or a seasoned pro, this blog post is for you.

Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • Make sure you cook the mince properly before adding it to the stock. This adds a rich flavor to the pie base.
  • Avoid overcooking the peas; stir them in at the end of the simmering process as they remain sweet and bright.
  • You need to cook vegetables on low heat so that they soften properly.
  • Spread the potato mixture well to the edges. It adds a flavourful filling underneath.
  • To enjoy extra crispy, lightly drizzle potatoes with olive oil before baking.

Recipe Variation for Different Diets

  • Keto Version: Swap potatoes with cauliflower, replace carrot and turnip with cauliflower, and mushrooms.
  • Gluten-Free Version: Swap regular flour with gluten-free flour and check if Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free or not.
