Hearty Jamie Oliver Fish Pie Recipe

Attention folks! Today, I bring you a super easy and delicious Jamie Oliver fish Pie recipe. You are definitely gonna love it. I’ve had this recipe saved for a very long time and finally made it this weekend. To my surprise, it turned out to be really amazing. Thanks to Jamie Oliver!

There’s something special and delicious about this fish pie that makes me return for more. Wanna know a fun fact? This fish pie is sometimes referred to as “fisherman’s pie” because the mashed potato topping used in this fish pie is somewhat similar to that used in shepherd’s pie.

Making this fish pie at home is pretty simple, with very straightforward steps. Moreover, it tastes absolutely delicious! You will know when you take the first bite of this pie right out of the oven.

The double cream and cheese dressings are crazy good. Moreover, the velvety mashed potatoes give the pie a luscious texture, and the flaky fish adds a punch of seafood flavor.

I love cheese, so my favorite part of this dish is the crispy golden crust made with parmesan cheese. This is the exact reason why this Jamie Oliver fish pie is one of my all-time favorite comfort food recipes.

Additionally, I also customize this recipe by adding extra cheese and mustard for a robust turn of flavors and serving it with baked beans in tomato sauce. Now, it’s time for you to try this pie and enjoy its delicious flavors.

Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • I like to add more texture to my pie, so I mix frozen peas and sweetcorn into the filling. This adds a pop of color and crunch.
  • I also sprinkle extra grated cheese on the mashed potatoes before baking to achieve a golden, crispy topping. You can also use breadcrumbs to add crunch.
  • You can experiment with the toppings by adding crushed nuts or seeds mixed with herbs for a unique twist on the traditional pie crust.
  • I use different kinds of cheese, such as gruyere, cheddar, and parmesan, to add a more complex flavor profile to my pie.

Recipe Variations For Different Diets

  • Vegan: To make this recipe vegan, I replace fish with plant-based alternatives like tofu, tempeh, or store-bought vegan seafood. I swap eggs for flaxseed meal or chia seed mixture, double cream for coconut cream or cashew cream, and cheese for vegan cheese from brands like Violife Just Like Cheddar or Follow Your Heart. Additionally, I use vegan butter or a plant-based oil like canola or sunflower oil for the mashed potatoes.
  • Vegetarian: To make a vegetarian version of this fish pie, I substitute fish for tofu, tempeh, mushrooms, or chickpeas. I swap out cream for oat or almond milk cream. I also opt for vegan cheese or nutritional yeast in place of regular cheese.
  • Keto-Friendly: To serve this dish to people following a keto-friendly diet, I replace the potatoes with cauliflower mash and the cream with coconut cream or heavy cream.
  • Paleo: To make this paleo-friendly recipe, I substitute potatoes with cauliflower mash and cream with coconut milk or coconut cream. I usually eliminate the cheese or use a paleo-approved nut-based cheese.

Storing And Reheating This Recipe

Storing

  • Refrigerator: Whenever I have extra fish pie, I store it in the refrigerator. I cover it with plastic wrap or aluminum foil or put it in an airtight container. Then, I transfer it to the refrigerator, where it stays good for up to 3-4 days.
  • Freezer: To store this pie for a longer duration, I prefer freezing it. I usually slice my pie into smaller portions and wrap each portion with plastic wrap. Then, I put all the individual portions into a freezer-safe bag or an airtight container and place them in the freezer, where they are stored well for up to 3-4 months.

Reheating

  • Oven: This is the best method for preserving my pie’s texture. I preheat my oven to 350°F. Then, I cover the top layer of the pie with aluminum foil to prevent it from burning. Then, I heat it for about 15- 20 minutes until it is heated all the way through.
  • Microwave: If I am in a hurry, I use a microwave to heat the pie. I transfer a portion of the pie to a microwave-safe dish and cover it with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap. I make sure to leave a small gap in between to let the steam escape. Then, I heat it on medium power for about 2 to 3 minutes, checking halfway through to make sure it is evenly heated. But remember that microwaving your pie can make your topping less crispy.
  • Skillet: If I want to heat a small portion, I use a skillet. It is more convenient and provides me with controlled heating. I place a portion of the pie on a non-stick skillet and heat it over medium flame, covered with a lid.

What To Serve With This Jamie Oliver Fish Pie Recipe

I like to keep things simple and satisfying when serving this fish pie. Therefore, I love pairing it with broccoli salad or green beans, which add a nice crunch and color.

For something a little more indulgent, I also like to serve it with cheesy cauliflower gratin and buttered crusty bread to soak up all that creaminess. It also tastes delicious with roasted Brussels sprouts and sautéed green beans.
